What is powder coating?

Powder coating is a dry finishing process in which electrostatically-charged powder is applied to a metal part and cured under heat into a tough, uniform, durable finish — harder and longer-lasting than liquid paint, which is why it survives the returnable loop.

SPF runs one of the largest powder coating ovens in the Southeast, plus wet paint, in-house — so every part ships finished, not waiting in an outside coater’s queue.

We finish racks, weldments, and fabricated parts for automotive, aerospace and defense, and industrial customers in the color and spec your program requires.

Our powder coating line runs the full sequence in-house — pretreatment and surface prep, electrostatic application of dry powder, then a full oven cure that fuses the coating into a hard, uniform shell. Because SPF operates among the largest powder ovens in the Southeast, we finish large racks and weldments in-house that most shops have to send out.

We coat in TGIC polyester, epoxy, hybrid, and urethane chemistries, matched to matte, gloss, or textured finishes in standard RAL colors — including high-temp, chemical-resistant, and UV-resistant systems for parts that live outdoors or in harsh process environments. Whether it is a single prototype or a full production run of welded frames and weldments, the finish goes on to spec and ships ready to install.

Wet Paint

Where a spec calls for liquid paint instead of powder, we run wet paint and industrial painting in the same building. Liquid systems are the right answer for very large assemblies, heat-sensitive parts, custom color matches, and touch-up on parts that cannot fit an oven.

Surface Prep

sandblasting & surface prep.

A durable finish starts with clean, profiled steel. We handle sandblasting and media blasting plus chemical pretreatment to strip mill scale, rust, and old coatings and to create the surface profile a powder or wet system needs to bond.

We prep and coat weldments, frames, brackets, enclosures, structural steel, machine guards, railings — and customer-supplied parts you bring to us for finishing only. Consistent surface prep is what makes the electrostatic application and oven cure hold up through years of a returnable loop.

What is the difference between powder coat and paint?

Powder coating cures into a thicker, tougher, more durable finish than liquid paint and resists chipping and corrosion better — ideal for parts that cycle through a returnable loop.

How large a part can you powder coat?
