What is design for manufacturing?

Design for manufacturing (DFM) engineers a part so it can be built efficiently, reliably, and to cost. In-house SolidWorks design turns your math data, print, or even a rough idea into a buildable, production-ready part.

SPF’s engineering team designs racks, weldments, and fabricated parts for weldability, durability, and cost from the first concept — so it cuts, forms, welds, and finishes clean instead of being redesigned two months in.

CAD Modeling

Our in-house CAD design services run on SolidWorks, delivering full 3D modeling from your math data, prints, or a physical sample. Whether you need build-to-print production or reverse engineering of an existing part, our engineers produce clean, fully dimensioned models that drop straight onto the floor.

Every model carries proper GD&T, so tolerances are unambiguous from quote through CMM inspection to ±0.005". We work concept-to-production under one roof — no handing your project between vendors, and no data lost in translation between CAD and the shop.

DFM

Design-for-manufacturability (DFM) is built into every CAD design service we offer. We engineer each part for weldability, formability, and cost before steel is cut, so laser cutting, forming, and welding all run clean the first time.

Our engineers flag issues early — material thickness, bend radii, weld access — and adjust the 3D model to fit real shop capability. That up-front DFM work is why our custom manufacturing programs move from prototype to production without costly redesigns two months in.

Because CAD design and the fabrication floor share one roof, we move from prototyping to full production fast. Engineers refine the 3D model, build a prototype, validate fit and load, then scale the same concept-to-production data into repeatable runs.

Need machined features alongside fabricated ones? Our CAD work ties directly into CNC machining, so turned and milled parts match the model exactly. Reverse engineering, build-to-print, and clean GD&T keep every stage aligned from first concept to final part.
